You may have heard of the spread of black rats and Norway rats around the globe and of the damage they cause to both agricultural industries and susceptible native species.

These rats reproduce quickly and adapt to a variety of environments.

Black rats have caused huge declines in sea bird populations on the islands off the west coast of BC. Extensive work has been undertaken on the Haida Gwaii archipelago to get rid of invasive rats that threaten sea birds and other at-risk species that depend on the habitats of these remote islands to survive.
